Shortcut GPO for Root Network Share

If you have tried adding a GPO to create a shortcut to the root network share, \\contoso for instance, then you have probably seen that it is not working. The solution is to not use Shell Object and not File System Object. Once you select Shell Object, click on Browse for Shell Object and select Network. This will take some time for it to scan the network. In my experience, I have to do this twice. The first time shows a couple of items under Network. When I click cancel and then go back and browse, click on Network, the full list appears at which point I can select the network share I needed to make a shortcut to. Here is the example below that once I browsed for and selected the shell object on the network, the shortcut was successfully created.
