How to reset AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro are wireless earphones developed by Apple Inc. They work by connecting to other iOS devices as well as Android devices through Bluetooth. The second generation of AirPods came in 2019 with some tweaking to their features.

As smart listening devices, AirPods Pro offer more value than the wired earphones that usually come with the purchase of any iOS device, and that is why they’re so popular. Among these features are noise cancellation and access to Siri, the virtual assistant by Apple.

If AirPods are presenting problems for the user, they can either be taken through a factory reset or a hard reset. This article looks at how to reset AirPods Pro when the need arises. While a factory reset involves a reboot of the whole system, a hard reset only involves particular and problematic hardware in the system.

When to reset:

Instances that call for you to reset your AirPods Pro include:

  • When one of the AirPods isn’t functioning
  • When one or both AirPods are hanging or playing but with glitches
  • When you want to rename it afresh
  • When the case isn’t syncing with the AirPods

How to hard reset:

Kindly note that before you attempt any reset functions, both your AirPods and their case need to be charged.

Resetting from your iOS device:

  1. Start by placing both your AirPods back into their case
  2. Next, pull down the case cover and give it thirty seconds before opening it up again
  3. Now place the case near your iPhone and go to the home screen.
  4. On your iPhone, go to ‘Settings’ and then select the Bluetooth option
  5. Once there, click on the ‘i’ icon that’s located next to your AirPods and click on the ‘Forget device’ option
  6. With the cover to the case pulled up, locate the small button at the back of the case and press it until it turns orange in color. First, it’ll turn white so keep pressing until it gets to orange. This could take up to a minute so try and be patient.
  7. When it turns orange, let go of the button; it means that the AirPods have been successfully reset.
  8. Shut the case and then open it again.
  9. On your iPhone, it’ll ask you to ‘Connect’ so tap on that icon.
  10. Tap on this icon to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone.

With this reset, it’ll be like using the AirPods for the first time. Because of this, they will not acknowledge any of your devices that are synced with your iCloud account. Once you click on the Connect icon, you will have to set up from scratch.

Resetting from your Android device:

We’ve looked at how to reset from your iOS device, let’s now look at how to reset from your Android device.

  1. On your Android phone, go to Settings> Device Connectivity > then turn on your Bluetooth
  2. Open the case to your AirPods and connect them to your Android phone through the Bluetooth connection.
  3. To hard reset the AirPods, open their case and hold down the button at the back until it turns orange in color.
  4. Once the color changes to orange go to the Android device and tap on the AirPods icon.
  5. This will prompt a Bluetooth connection authorization, allowing you to pair the AirPods to the device again.

That is how the hard reset is accomplished from your Android device. It’s quite easy to follow all of the instructions from whichever operating system you’re using.
