Recommendations for Oracle OpenWorld 2019

Oracle OpenWorld 2019 in San Francisco is coming up quickly. It’s the biggest Oracle event of the year with a lot of great presentations and amazing influencers.

Flexagon’s President, Dan Goerdt, is a conference veteran, attending and speaking at over 10 events in 2019. I sat down to ask Dan about what he is most looking forward to this year.

What topics are you most looking forward to this year?

Dan Goerdt: There are a lot of cool things happening around Oracle right now.  I enjoy the tried and true technologies such as E-Business Suite, Fusion Middleware, Database, and BI and the more recent additions of IaaS and PaaS cloud services such as APIs, Containers, Integration Cloud, Digital Assistant, Java, and SOA. I might be a little biased because of how well those products and services fit in with FlexDeploy (Flexagon’s DevOps platform).

What sessions are your must-sees?

D: Wow, there are a lot! I looked through the sessions (but not all 1,400 because that would be crazy) and picked some of my favorites. I think I had a handful of E-Business Suite sessions, a couple about Database and APEX, some about Fusion Middleware, quite a few cloud sessions, and of course, some DevOps sessions which look interesting.

If I have to narrow down the number of sessions, probably…

  • Migrating and Managing Customizations for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 by Santiago Bastidas
  • Low-Code Development with Oracle Application Express and Oracle Autonomous Database by David Peake and Marc Sewtz
  • Oracle Fusion Middleware Running on Kubernetes with some of the Oracle personnel
  • Use Oracle Integration Hybrid Solutions to Smooth Your Journey to the Cloud by Antony Reynolds
  • PAN5826: Oracle SOA Suite Everywhere (Containers, Cloud, On-Premises) and Customer Panel

I can give you the full list, too.

Are there any Oracle influencers or presenters you are exited to reconnect with or meet?

D: So many. Half the fun of events like this is meeting new people and catching up with acquaintances. Some influencers I’m looking forward to connecting with and hearing their sessions include Nadia Benjedou, David Peake, and Suhas Uliyar. To name a few.

Nadia Benjedou works on the Oracle’s E-Business Suite product management team, focusing on strategy including running EBS on the Oracle Cloud. Looking forward to her product insights, including the traction to move EBS customers to the cloud. With the success we are seeing at Flexagon in making that shift, I’m sure Nadia will have lots to talk about.

David Peake is a member of the Oracle APEX product management team, focusing the market/customer engagement and showcasing how APEX can help customers. Given the support FlexDeploy has for APEX and our discussions with other APEX Dev/PM team members, David’s session is sure to be a hit.

Suhas Uliyar heads up the integration product organization, taking over for Vikas Anand who headed to Google recently. Although I don’t know Suhas well, my initial interactions have been very positive and I’m looking forward to extending the long-term relationship Flexagon has had with the Integration related products and services which Suhas now leads.

As you can see, there’s a lot to look forward to, and a lot of information available to consume while at OpenWorld. Please feel free to share any sessions or presenters you are looking forward to seeing!
