Profiling questions nobodys asking re: cloud applications. I find it odd that so much is being written about defining cloud terminology, cloud operation, and cloud construction. But so little attention is being paid to identifying & profiling which applications are best-suited to actually run in an external "cloud.

'Officer Tim Brenton. On Friday, November 6th at 1:00 PM, five thousand people gathered in Seattle to grieve for Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton who was murdered in his police cruiser. At 3:30 PM the killer was caught , after a week of diligent detective work, and through use of video technology. My reading this summer included Chris Anderson's book, " Free " (I got the Kindle edition, available for a limited time as a free download, of course). Anderson's seminal work, " The Long Tail " helped explain to a generation how the distribution model of the Internet has fundamentally changed economics of many businesses by spreading fixed costs over previously unimaginably huge audiences/markets.

In my 2002 book Living Networks I selected Interfaces as one of the three key enablers that would bring the networks to life. One of the most interesting topics at the recent Future of Influence Summit was the emergence of business models for influence. Some particularly intriguing issues were raised in the Business Models for Influence and Reputation panel , suggesting that one of the key currencies of the future will be influence. The panellists generally agreed that total revenue in the influence sector, including the companies represented on the panel ( Rapleaf , Buzzlogic , Klout ) is around US$100 million.
