Healthcare’s Big 3 – Chatbots, Smart Algorithms, and AI

Healthcare Data

Healthcare continuously expands the realm of digital technology and explores new paths to analyze and comprehend complex data. The industry is moving in leaps and bounds in order to stay ahead of the technology trends that are upcoming.

This blog looks into three major trends that are becoming major components of the healthcare industry.

Smart Algorithms

When practitioners insert known statistics into smart algorithms, computers can extract information and relate it to a problem. With this predictive information, practitioners can intervene in advance of a major complication and have the opportunity to save more lives each year.

Complex algorithms assist doctors in making educated and informed decisions by analyzing vast amounts of information. These smart systems will provide accurate determinations, for proper and efficient diagnosis.

“Take, for example, a study released by a group of researchers from the University of Chicago, Stanford University, the University of California, San Francisco, and Google. The study, fed de-identified data on hundreds of thousands of patients into a series of machine learning algorithms powered by Google’s massive computing resources.

With extraordinary accuracy, these algorithms were able to predict and diagnose diseases, from cardiovascular illnesses to cancer, and predict related things such as the likelihood of death, the length of hospital stay, and the chance of hospital readmission. Within 24 hours of a patient’s hospitalization, for example, the algorithms were able to predict with over 90% accuracy the patient’s odds of dying. These predictions, however, were based on patterns in the data that the researchers could not fully explain.” Harvard Business Review

Chatbots

Currently, chatbots in the healthcare field are providing patient assistance and care, while providing users with access to first hand medical records and information while streamlining the data exchange process at the first sign of illness.

Conversa Health focuses on automating digital conversations between providers and patients. The program features more than 50 clinically-intelligent conversation programs that include conditions that usually require continuous observation and follow up care like diabetes and hypertension. Conversa Health is basically automating the interactions that should take place between physician and patient to enhance healthcare delivery and improve both clinical and financial outcomes.”

AI

AI-powered medical assistants can book appointments, monitor a patient’s health status and perform other time-intensive responsibilities such as inventory, billing and claims management.

“There’s really no escaping chatbots these days, or for the foreseeable future. Developers have launched more than 33,000 Facebook Messenger chatbots since April 2016. What’s more, 80% of brands across industries will be using chatbots for customer interactions by 2020,” according to research conducted by Oracle.

Successfully applying AI solutions into daily work productivity is more efficient and cost-effective. There is potential for brands to reduce average call handling times with chatbots and save a significant amount of cost.

Through the use of virtual and proactive care, traditional healthcare settings will be expanded to adapt with the patient-centric venues that will be enabled by algorithms, which will be predictive and have the ability to alert physicians of potential changes in health status.

Looking ahead, the future of artificial intelligence is promising. The stages of development for this new technology are in the beginning phases, but the outlook for advanced programming and development is what sets this technology apart from the rest in healthcare.

The chance for success is extremely high, and the individuals in charge are continuously developing, innovating, and creating new solutions for some of the most advanced questions relating to AI software.
