How Red Hat OpenShift Helps Enterprises Digitally Transform

home health programs

Enterprises want to take advantage of best-in-class technology, whether it is on-premises or a service in the public cloud. Ultimately, their goals are to streamline operations, remain secure and compliant, and save money. Red Hat OpenShift, an open-source container platform based on Kubernetes that helps enterprises modernize and build applications, solves for these needs.

OpenShift offers automated installation, upgrades, and lifecycle management through the container stack – the operation system, Kubernetes and cluster services, and applications – on any cloud. The platform helps teams build with speed, agility, confidence, and choice, and provides security at every level of the container stack and throughout the application lifecycle.

When you make a platform-level decision, you need to not only solve today’s problems but tomorrow’s problems as well. Your platform needs to be flexible and able to change with business dynamics, your cloud environment, data laws like GDPR, etc.

In the latest episode of our podcast, “Emerge Smarter,” Joel Thimsen spoke with Brian Gracely, director of product strategy for Red Hat OpenShift, and the platform’s benefits for operations and IT executives. Gracely outlined how OpenShift can help enterprises meet their digital transformation goals.

Consistency

Most organizations that we deal with don’t have the ability to build from scratch – most often, our customers have legacy systems, apps, and infrastructures that need to be integrated with their new platforms and their teams aren’t familiar with the new platform. OpenShift provides consistency across environments and enables teams to easily work with the platform.

Unlock Your Potential with Application Modernization

Application modernization is a growing area of focus for enterprises. If you’re considering this path to cloud adoption, this guide explores considerations for the best approach – cloud native or legacy migration – and more.

Get the Guide

OpenShift can consistently run in multiple cloud environments, including on-premises, bare metal, or in a virtual machine (VM) environment. It can also run on top of AWS, Azure, or Google, which normalizes your enterprise environments and creates simplicity within your organization.

Security

With data breaches occurring almost daily at major corporations, security is top-of-mind for our customers. Teams spend countless hours preparing for and dealing with security issues – many platforms do not front-load security controls. However, OpenShift’s built-in security controls provide enterprises with secure container environments from the start.

OpenShift’s built-in security controls can:

  1. Provide multiple levels of authorization for security and auditing
  2. Ensure malicious apps will not take down your system
  3. Lockdown systems based on role-based access default

Cost-savings

Automation enhances efficiency and saves you money. Container platforms like OpenShift are a more efficient use of computing power than VMs, and customers use containers more than VMs. Containers help streamline processes and enable multiple environments to integrate with each other.

As you evaluate different cloud environments, you will realize that you need to have people on your teams with certain skill sets that align to certain platforms. It starts to add up if you have to hire additional people to fill skills gaps or certify your current teams. OpenShift allows you to onboard your existing teams to one platform and automates underlying resources in the cloud.
