— Vancouver, B.C.-based online education company Thinkific announced former Hootsuite executive Henk Campher as chief marketing officer.

Based in Seattle, Campher was most recently VP of corporate marketing at social media management platform Hootsuite. He was previously VP of brand communications at Salesforce and held executive roles at agencies Edelman and Allison+Partners.

The company also promoted Chris McGuire to chief technology officer, taking over from Thinkific co-founder Matt Payne who will now be SVP of innovation.

McGuire joined Thinkific earlier this year as vice president of engineering. He is the former CTO of Canadian startups Checkfront and Foodee. He is also a Hootsuite alum and was director of software development for the social media management tool after it acquired Brightkit, which McGuire co-founded.

Thinkific raised $22 million last year to grow its platform for creating online courses. In April, Thinkific went public on the Toronto Stock Exchange raising more than $125 million USD.

The nine-year old company recently launched new features including a dedicated Fiverr Store for its course creators, an embedded payment processing service and its own application marketplace.

— Amplero founder and former CEO Olly Downs left his role as vice president of data and machine learning at Zulily. He announced on LinkedIn he has joined New York dog toy subscription box company BARK as SVP of data, analytics and machine learning.

Downs previously founded AI marketing startup Amplero, which spun out of Globys in 2016, where he was as CEO and later chief science officer.

Downs left the Seattle startup in 2018. After a brief stint at Zillow Group, he joined Zulily in 2019. Amplero shut down in 2020 due to economic impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

— San Diego, Calif.-based IoT startup Wiliot appointed former Zillow and Convoy exec Tony Small as chief business officer. Small was most recently chief revenue officer at Pro.com, which was acquired by Opendoor earlier this month.

Prior to Pro.com, Small was chief revenue officer at trucking startup Convoy. He spent more than eight years at real estate giant Zillow, most recently as senior vice president. He was previously a senior manager at Amazon.

Wiliot, which has developed a low-energy IoT chip, closed a $200 million Series C round in July with plans to expand sales of both the chips and its software.

— San Francisco cloud computing company Netlify hired Dana Lawson as senior vice president of engineering and Akram Hassan as vice president of product.

Lawson, based in Portland, Ore., was most recently VP of engineering at GitHub. She was previously director of engineering at Heptio and New Relic.

Based in Seattle, Hassan joins Netlify from Uber where he was head of product for its growth platform. He was previously a senior director of product management at Dell EMC and program manager at Microsoft.

— Microsoft veteran Hemant Vashisth has joined Amazon as senior program manager for Amazon Transportation Services. He was most recently principal DevOps manager at Philips and previously worked a T-Mobile and Skype.

— Seattle law firm Focal PLLC promoted intellectual property attorney Stacia Lay and data protection and privacy attorney Barb Rhoads-Weaver to members of the firm.
