— Seattle beanless coffee brewer Atomo promoted head of growth Ed Hoehn to chief operating officer and appointed two new board members, Birgit Cameron and Jordan Schenck.

Hoen joined the company in May after serving as president of St. Louis, Mo.-based Volt Systems, a vendor management and product tracking startup that was recently acquired by Walmart. Hoen was previously also CEO of retail technology startup CoinFlip Solutions; chief customer officer at printing services company Orora Visual; and senior vice president of marketing services at sales and marketing services agency Crossmark.

Cameron co-founded Patagonia Provisions, the food arm of the outdoor apparel company. Schenck is the co-founder and chief revenue officer of beverage company Sunwink, and was previously head of consumer marketing for Impossible Foods.

Atomo makes its sustainable brews without beans using 98% upcycled ingredients such as extracts of date seed, chicory root and grape skin. The company also uses less water and releases less carbon emissions than conventional coffee. It raised $40 million in June.

Emily Pesce is now CEO of Joon Care, replacing co-founder Josh Herst, who will remain with the mental health startup as a strategic advisor and board member.

Pesce is a managing member of venture firm Working Lab Capital and was previously vice president of online learning platform Nerdy. She was also previously senior manager of mobile services at Amazon.

Joon Care provides remote therapy services for teens and young adults and raised $3.5 million in 2020. The company was founded in 2019 Amy Mezulis, the company’s chief clinical officer, and Herst, who previously led Walk Score, which was acquired by Redfin in 2014.

Other key personnel moves across the Pacific Northwest tech industry:

  • Shalendra Chhabra moved from Microsoft to become head of product and people manager for Amazon Web Services ML/AI Human-in-the-Loop Services.
  • The University of Washington honored more than 20 faculty members for academic excellence at a recent Faculty Honors Reception.
