  • Google announced the launch of its Duet AI assistant for workspace apps, including Gmail, Docs, Slides, Drive, and more.
  • Google is also adding AI models from Anthropic and Meta to its cloud platform to create a cloud source for AI technology.

Google announced the launch of its Duet AI assistant for its in-house workspace apps such as Drive, Gmail, Docs, and others. Duet has been in the beta stage for months, with over a million users interacting with the tool. The product was initially announced at Google’s I/O developer conference earlier this year. Finally, the AI assistant is available for the general public.

Adding Duet can help users broaden the scope of these traditionally popular apps. For instance, Docs users will be able to create slides from the content outline. Alternatively, Sheets users can create customized charts based on data on a sheet. Duet in Gmail will help draft emails, check grammar, and more.

Additionally, Duet will be able to take notes and even be a part of meetings, allowing users to keep up with happenings even if they miss such events. Essentially, Duet allows AI integration between Workspace and Cloud.

However, the service is not available to users for free. The AI assistant will be available to large organizations for $30 per user. This is keeping it in line with Microsoft’s competitor product — Copilot.

Google Adds AI Tools From Meta and Anthropic to Cloud Platform

In addition to Duet, Google has also made another push in the AI market by adding Antrophic’s Claude 2 chatbot and Meta’s Llama 2 LLM to its cloud platform in a bid to set itself as a source for AI products for cloud customers. According to Google, Google Cloud clients will be able to choose from more than 100 AI models per their needs.

Google’s PaLM LLM is also available in 38 languages for various documentation applications. Another Google AI model, Codey, is also available for computer coding use cases. Google also announced a feature to watermark AI-generated images at the pixel level, making alterations tougher. With the additions of AI models from other companies, Google is likely aiming to gain market share through collaborations.

These moves build on the improvements Google has already made to Bard in its competition with ChatGPT. The launch of Duet AI and other AI models could potentially help the company retain its lead in the industry.

However, AI products globally haven’t reached a level of accuracy and reliability that organizations can use without double-checking the results. Consequently, Duet’s popularity at such a relatively high price is not a certainty.
