Most installation issues will be solved by a simple restart of Windows 11 or Windows 10 PCs. However, some of the problems might need more troubleshooting, repair, etc.

When installing Office on your personal PCs, you might see this error if a previous installation of Office failed. Here are some things you can try to fix the problem. I will discuss Error Code 0-2031 (17006) in this post.

Error Code 0-2031 17006 Microsoft Office Installation Issue
Now, let’s find out the possible reasons for Error Code 0-2031 17006 Microsoft Office Installation Issue. Let’s discuss Office 365 or 2021 installation error “Microsoft Office couldn’t install – We are sorry, we had a problem installing your office program(s).” Most of the time Microsoft Office error message itself gives you a basic idea about the problem and resolution.
The three of the hints given in the Office error messages for the error code 0-2031 17006 are:
- Is your internet connection working?
- Do you have enough free disk space on your main hard drive?
- Windows 11 PC should not go to Hibernate or sleep phase during the install or update.
- Please try installing again after you’ve checked the above.
Troubleshooting Office Application Issues
There are many troubleshooting options to resolve the issue related to error codes such as 0-2031 (17006), 0-1018, or 2035-0. The first thing I looked is whether I had an internet connection or not. The Diskspace issues can also cause problems with the update and installation of the Office applications.
In case of an update or upgrade of Office application issues, you will need to make sure that none of the following executables are running during update time, then the update will fail with the error code 17006.
Winword.EXE, Excel.EXE, Msaccess.EXE, OfficeClickToRun.exe, Groove.EXE, OUTLOOK.EXE, OneNote.exe, POWERPNT.EXE, MSPUB.EXE, LYNC.EXE, WINPROJ.EXE, VISIO.EXE, ACCICONS.EXE, lynchtmlconv.exe, and PPTICO.EXE.
You can check the processes running from Task Manager – Details. You can right-click on Windows 11 or Windows 10 start button and select Task Manager.
Repair Microsoft Office Applications on Windows 11
Now let’s try to repair the Microsoft Office applications to fix some of the issues with updates or other issues such as MS Word or Excel is not working after the update etc. This option will repair the entire Office suite even if it’s just one application you want to repair such as Word or Excel.
You can right-click on Start button from Windows 11 PC and select Installed Apps option. This will directly take you to the Settings – Apps – Installed apps section.
From the Installed Apps section in Windows 11 PC, select Office application installed. I have installed Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise on my personal Windows 11 PC.
- Search for the Office Application installed on Windows 11 PC.
- Click on the Kebab menu (3 dots vertically) option near Microsoft Office 365 apps.
- Select Modify option to continue with the repair of Microsoft Office application.
NOTE! – You can use the same Modify option to reset the Microsoft Office 365 or 2021 application from Windows 11 PC.
Office Application Quick Repair Option
There are two repair options available for Office 365 or 2021. The quick Repair and Online Repair. I will try the quick repair option for Microsoft Office 365 apps as the first step. If that is not helping you, then you should try the second option mentioned below.
NOTE! – The quick repair option doesn’t require any internet connect and that will just detects and then replaces corrupted files.
Select the Quick Repair option and click on Repair button to start the Quick Repair of Microsoft Office 365 application suite repairt
You will need to click on Repair button again to confirm and start the quick repair. Now, you will get a notification to close the office suite application before starting the repair. Click on Continue button to close the office apps and start the Quick repair.
The quick repair is completed and if the problems related to Office 365 apps are still there, then you will need to try with Online Repair option explained below.
Office 365 Apps Online Repair to Fix Issues
Let’s check Office 365 Apps Online Repair option to fix Issues with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Clcik on the second option (Online Repair) from the modify menu.
Online repair option is much more advanced than quick repair and this fixes all issues with Office applications. But this option takes a little longer and requires an internet connection throughout the process.
Similar to quick repair, Office 365 Online Repair also needs a confirmation to start the process and then it will ask permission to close office apps. Click on Repair button and Click on Continue button to close the applications that are open.
It takes longer to complete the online repair because it downloads all the binaries from Office CDN and reinstalls the entire Office suite.
The Microsoft Office Application installation/repair/reset is completed now. And you have a freshly reinstalled or repaired Office suite of applications. Most of the common Office apps related issues might be resolved by now.
