  • Check out seven of the most important conferences scheduled for this month.

The new calendar year ushers in promises of exciting new applications of cutting-edge innovations. 2024 should turn out to be a period of tech boom, even as the short-term economic prospects seem bleak.

Artificial intelligence’s (AI) rise could serve as an enabler of industry innovations horizontally. Of the many use cases, immersive technology and spatial computing seem among the most promising applications. AI is also the driving force behind rapid hardware development to facilitate greater workload execution and management.

More importantly, rapid infrastructural upgrades are needed as aging legacy systems, while reliable, cannot facilitate seamless integration with avant-garde tech such as 5G, AI, WiFi 6, etc.

Events are the technology industry’s vehicle of change, bridging the gap between enterprises with their potential customers, investors, and other stakeholders and updating them on the latest trends.

As we head into 2024, Spiceworks brings the top seven technology conferences to watch in January.

Tech Conferences in January 2024

1. CES 2024

Consumer Electronics Show (CES) conferences have been one of the biggest tech shows, and the 2024 edition promises to be no different. Consumer Technology Association (CTA) expects it to be the “largest in-person, independently audited tech event in the world,” with 130,000 attendees, more than 1000 startups, and over 3500 exhibitors anticipated at the event.

CES has not recuperated the attendance losses since the pre-COVID-19 events (175,000+ in 2019 and 171,000+ in 2020). Still, its pull remains unrivaled, especially for startups that have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the bigwigs and, more importantly, have a chance of getting the word out of their arrival on the tech scene.

The top technology categories expected at CES 2024 include AI, sustainability, startups, digital health, transportation, and mobility. CES 2024 will have five keynote addresses and three keynote conversations.

Location: Multiple venues in Las Vegas, NV

Date(s): January 9 – 12, 2024

Attendance: Offline; paid registration required

2. NVIDIA Special Address

NVIDIA is possibly the biggest winner of the AI surge, having hit the $1 trillion market capitalization in June 2023 — only the sixth tech company to reach the milestone. Everyone wants NVIDIA hardware underneath their AI workloads.

As the demand for graphics processing units (GPUs) outpaced supply, NVIDIA’s popular H100 chips have been out of stock for months. The production lag is so high that it pushed the availability of the coveted chips to 2024. The H100’s successor, GH200, is also slated to be available this year.

However, the company is speculated to launch the RTX 40-series graphics cards, possibly including one or two Super cards, at the NVIDIA Special Address. NVIDIA’s special address will take place at CES 2024, although its scope would have you believe it is an independent event.

3. IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics

The IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics 2024 (ICCE 2024) will be the 42nd year of the event. Themed Creating Our Future with Consumer Technology, the conference can be a great learning opportunity.

It offers technical and industry programs covering traditional and contemporary topics delivered through lectures, interactive oral presentations, tutorials, industry forums, mixed panels, and expert keynotes across 23 tracks.

Location: Tuscany Suites and Casino, Las Vegas, NV

Date(s): January 5 – 8, 2024

4. Galaxy Unpacked 2024

Samsung is starting right at the onset to meet its target of selling 35 million smartphones. The company’s Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event will be held on January 18, 2024, and is expected to see the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and its AI-heavy strategy.

“Galaxy AI is a comprehensive mobile AI experience, powered by both on-device AI developed at Samsung and cloud-based AI enabled by our open collaborations with like-minded industry leaders. It will transform your everyday mobile experience with the peace of mind you count on from Galaxy security and privacy,” Samsung noted in November last year.

Among the most important updates to the Galaxy S24 line of smartphones include the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and a titanium casing.

5. EmTech Europe

A portmanteau of the words emerging and technology, EmTech Europe will focus on four key areas: General Tech Trends, Environment, Society, and Governance.

The event, organized by the MIT Technology Review for the first time in Europe, will feature keynotes, fireside chats, engaging panel discussions, and short presentations by innovators and startups.

Location: Athens Concert Hall, Greece

Date(s): January 17-18, 2024

Attendance: Offline and online; paid registration required

6. Quantum Miami 2024

The 11th Quantum Miami is expected to continue bringing together crypto investors and blockchain entrepreneurs, Web3 pioneers, and trailblazers. The 2023 version of the event, termed an  ‘unconference,’ looks like one huge tech party.

“This isn’t some sterilized echo chamber conference where you nod and clap like trained seals,” the event notes on its website. “This is Quantum Miami, the gritty underbelly of the crypto world where its past was paved and its future will be forged.”

Unfortunately, the agenda isn’t out yet, and the pre-registration seems closed.

The conference will run for three days, preceded by two days of pre-conference workshops. It will feature more than 115 sessions with over 110 speakers and 16 workshops.
