Meta and IBM Lead Alliance To Challenge Artificial Intelligence Leaders
The alliance includes members such as AMD, Cleveland Clinic, Dell, Intel, and more.
- Meta and IBM are coming together to lead an artificial intelligence alliance with over 50 companies as members.
- The collaboration is expected to challenge the dominance of current AI leaders such as Nvidia, AWS, and Microsoft.
International Business Machines Corp. and Meta Platforms Inc. are joining several other organizations to create an industry group dedicated to open-source artificial intelligence development, with provisions to share technology and minimize risks associated with AI tech.
The group, known as the AI Alliance, will focus on responsible AI development, including security and safety tools. It includes universities like Yale and Harvard and tech companies such as Dell Technologies (DELL), Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), NASA, Intel (INTC), Hugging Face, Red Hat, Oracle, and the Cleveland Clinic, among others.
While IBM and Meta might not gain directly from the development of open-source AI tools, they are expected to be able to counter AI leaders with closed models such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google and potentially even compete with Microsoft, AWS, and Nvidia.

The AI Alliance aims to create benchmarks, tools, and standards to improve the AI ecosystem to meet the requirements of global crises such as education and climate change, in addition to creating awareness about the benefits and disadvantages of AI.
These developments are important as artificial intelligence technologies have grown tremendously this year. As the sector continues to rise, various organizations, sectors, and companies are pushing for transparency and better regulations associated with the use and development of AI.
