The Bezos Earth Fund has hired Charlotte Pera as vice president for Strategy and Programs for the $10 billion effort to fight climate change.
Since 2012, Pera has been the president and CEO of ClimateWorks Foundation. The San Francisco organization works on international efforts to address global warming. It was one of the initial 16 environmental organizations to receive funding from the Earth Fund, which Amazon founder Jeff Bezos launched in February 2020. ClimateWorks received $50 million.
Last month, Bezos announced that the fund had hired Andrew Steer, former head of the World Resources Institute, as its first CEO and president. The institute was also a grant recipient, receiving $100 million.

Under Pera’s leadership, “ClimateWorks grew its staff nearly five-fold, expanded its donor base to more than 40 donors, built its budget to more than $140 million in 2021, and moved approximately $640 million in grants to organizations advancing climate solutions around the world,” according to a statement from ClimateWorks.
In a Twitter post, Steer said that Pera had done a “stunning job” in her previous role.
The Earth Fund plans to spend its $10 billion by 2030.
In announcing its creation, Bezos wrote: “This global initiative will fund scientists, activists, NGOs — any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world. We can save Earth. It’s going to take collective action from big companies, small companies, nation states, global organizations, and individuals.”
