Key Red Hat Summit Announcements

With numerous advancements to simplify developers’ lives, the open-source software giant could open up new digital transformation pathways for enterprises, focusing on IT automation, security for businesses, and supply chain safeguards. Some of the notable announcements made during the event included:

1. Ansible Lightspeed

As per Red Hat, Ansible Lightspeed is the continuation of the Project Wisdom initiative. The service will be integrated with IBM’s Watson code assistant platform. The recent interest in generative AI could help simplify no-code and low-code operations.

As per the company, Ansible Lightspeed, combined with IBM’s code assistant and large language model trained on Ansible automation language, will make it easier for developers and enterprises to create automation. The company has launched a public version to train the product while setting an October 2023 deadline for the launch of the enterprise version.

2. Event-Driven Ansible

Announcing another new offering, Red HaT launched Event-Driven Ansible, which makes it easier for an enterprise’s observability tools and infrastructure to connect with Ansible automation.

Users can use third-party tools to send events to Ansible, allowing Ansible to choose further action automatically based on rules and parameters set by IT teams in advance whenever preset conditions are met.

3. Red Hat Service Interconnect

Red Hat added Service Interconnect to its portfolio. The service provides 7-layer networking for applications that may run on different platforms. The tool can generate secure connections for software on any location or platform through a Kubernetes environment.

Service Interconnect allows operations without special privileges, reconfigurations, or firewall rules. This makes it easier for IT teams to bolster application networking as the use of cloud-native environments grows in combination with monolithic applications.

4. Red Hat Trusted Software Supply Chain

The Red Hat Trusted Software Supply Chain combines open-source tools to generate cloud services. The service helps secure CI/CD workflows to improve safeguards for software components.

The tool also offers access to tools like Quay and the Advanced Cluster Security platform for improved Kubernetes protections. The preview will be available in the coming weeks. It will monitor emerging threats and provide recommendations to secure vulnerabilities based on Red Hat’s best practices.

5. Red Hat Developer Hub

Red Hat also announced the Red Hat Developer Hub, an open, unified, enterprise-grade portal to simplify development operations with a supported framework. It will make things easier for developers on container and Kubernetes platforms, including OpenShift.

The Developer Hub will offer a unified view of all available developer resources and tools, secure self-service capabilities for cloud-native app developers, and standardized governance across the enterprise.

6. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) updates

The event saw the launch of RHEL updates, including management through Red Hat Insights, to keep an eye on cloud health in a singular management experience through redhat.com.

Another update for third-party migration on Linux was launched for consistent results and superior security arising from conversions in CentOS Linux 7. The developer subscription and Convert2RHEL customization allow for simplified transitions to the cloud without the problems of duplication.

7. Red Hat OpenShift AI

Red Hat revealed new updates for its OpenShift AI platform. This tool will now help build AI-focused portfolios based on the Red Hat OpenShift Data Science platform, enabling the development of AI models and apps.

The tool will use open-source tech, leveraging the generative AI capabilities of IBM’s Watson. The use of OpenShift AI will offer consistent performance across the infrastructure in terms of deployment and training, allowing easier management of large language models in hybrid cloud setups. It will also power the Watson Code Assistant and Ansible Lightspeed.
