Is it Time to Reimagine Your Databases?

My colleague @Krishna Kattumadam wrote a great blog last year on rethinking the role of databases in an organization. He opens his blog with the thought: “What if your organization's databases just worked, with all the complexity and tedium of database administration and maintenance hidden from view?”

And that question “What if…”, my readers, is what the Nutanix Database Summit: Reimage Databases event aims to do: help you ensure your databases are working for you instead of the other way around. It’s a complicated topic, but we have assembled a roster of database experts who will explore this topic in each of their talks.

We start the event by looking at the database experience in a hybrid cloud world with IDC’s VP Phil Goodwin. At Nutanix’s request, Phil conducted a global interview with enterprise technical leaders to uncover challenges that IT practitioners faced in managing the database across hybrid clouds. As with any study, there are expected outcomes, but he will present a few surprises during his 15-minute talk with Nutanix database executives.

The agenda moves to seven talks, each seven minutes long, exploring topics ranging from fine-tuning your Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server deployments to considering open source databases for that reimagined database environment. We have included experts from HPE and Moor Insights & Strategy that will present suggested methodologies to maximize hybrid cloud deployments for databases. We wrap this 90-minute event with thoughts from a customer who has deployed a database as a service for their own operation and their own clients, learning from each experience along the way.

As we know, change is inevitable, but with change comes new possibilities to explore and implement. So, join us at the upcoming Nutanix Database Summit. You are sure to come away with at least three actionable takeaways to help you get your database working for you—and on your terms.
