Microsoft and Tech Mahindra Collaborate for 5G Network Modernization

The collaboration will help optimize for time and cost constraints while encouraging telecommunications companies to modernize with secure, green 5G networks.

January 20, 2023

In a potential boost to telecoms, Tech Mahindra and Microsoft have partnered to optimize cloud-powered 5G core networks to meet consumer requirements for edge computing, virtual reality, augmented reality, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Microsoft announced a collaboration with Tech Mahindra to power the modernization of 5G core networks for telecommunications operators worldwide. Through the partnership, Tech Mahindra is set to provide offerings associated with managed services, talent expertise, and comprehensive solutions such as AIOps and Network Cloudification as a Service.

Telcos will now be able to leverage AIOps to utilize the cloud to provide customers with optimized augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and IoT offerings. This can be done by combining machine learning (ML) and big data for automating network operations such as performance and fault predictions, correlation of events, and anomaly detection, among others.

Furthermore, Tech Mahindra will leverage Microsoft’s cloud offerings to run its iSustain sustainability solution. This will help telcos monitor and measure ESG KPIs in detail. iSustain will help measure and cut down carbon emissions arising from power-intensive technologies such as IoT, VR, and AR.

The collaboration will also improve operations security through SenTindra, a virtual security operations center based on Microsoft’s Sentinel platform. The system will improve visibility, orchestration, and monitoring requirements in a cloud-based environment, minimizing downtime.

Collaboration Part of NXT.NOW Framework

The collaboration is a part of Tech Mahindra’s NXT.NOW Framework, which focuses on emerging tech solutions to bolster digital transformation for consumer needs for a ‘Human Centric Experience.’

CP Gurnani, the Managing Director and CEO of Tech Mahindra, statedOpens a new window , “Our collaboration with Microsoft will further strengthen our service portfolio by combining our deep expertise across the telecom industry with Microsoft Cloud. Further to this collaboration, Tech Mahindra and Microsoft will work together to help telecom operators simplify and transform their operations in order to build green and secure networks by leveraging the power of cloud technologies.”

Under the project, telecom operators will be able to leverage Microsoft’s Azure platform to improve scalability and flexibility while differentiating offerings with AI to automate operations and minimize costs associated with relevant infrastructure. These can be done while offering customers a seamless experience in terms of access and security in varying cloud environments.
