Let’s check how to FIX Microsoft Teams App Issues and also check the repair options available on Windows 11 devices. You have different variants of Microsoft Teams installed on Windows 11 PCs.

Windows 11 comes with Teams for Home application as the default chat application. The Teams App for School or Work is the full version of the Teams client with all the enterprise features available, such as meeting recording.

Teams App for Home (aka personal) is the built-n pp on Windows 11 PC. The Teams app for Work or School is available on Microsoft Store. The expectation is to have similar repair options for both the Microsoft Teams apps. No, it’s not! Both applications have different ways to repair and fix the Teams app issues.

  • Microsoft calls Teams for Home app is just Microsoft Teams app.
  • Microsoft Teams (Work or School) is the app that is the full version of the Teams app.

Teams App for Home comes with all the terminate, repair, reset, and uninstall options from Windows 11 settings app, similar to all the other inbox apps. However, you need to follow more traditional methods for Microsoft Teams app for work or school.

Microsoft Teams Home Vs. Microsoft Teams for Work or School

Let’s quickly understand the differences between Microsoft Teams Home Vs. Microsoft Teams Work or School in this section of the post. It’s important because Microsoft uses different icons for Home and Work or School Teams applications.

On the Taskbar on Windows 11, there are two types of Teams icons if you installed both variants of Teams. In the below screenshot, I have captured different types of Teams icons used on Windows 11 devices.

  • Windows 11 Taskbar Teams Icons
  • Teams Icons available under All Applications
  • Windows 11 Settings App -> Apps & Features

The different Microsoft Teams app icons are available on Windows 11 Settings -> Apps & Features, and it’s easy to differentiate from icon colors. The RED background one with the Teams icon for Microsoft Teams Personal (home).

The Taskbar icons of Teams are a bit different when you log in to Teams personal. The Teams icon with a video symbol shown in the picture is only when you have not logged into Teams with your account.

Adaptiva

Once you log in to the Teams for Home app, the icon on the Taskbar gets changed automatically to the standard Teams for Home icons (just Microsoft Teams).

  • Search for Microsoft Teams app.
  • Select Microsoft Teams for Home, as shown in the below screenshot.
  • Click on 3 vertical dots (step 2).

  • Go to the Advanced Options from Settings -> Apps – Apps & Features -> Microsoft Teams.
  • On the Advanced options page, scroll down until you RESET section.
  • Click on the REPAIR button first and see whether that fixes the Teams app issue or not.
  • If not, click on the RESET button to fix the issue.

Microsoft Teams repair and reset options are available only for the built-in Teams app that comes with Windows 11. It’s not available for the Win32 version of Microsoft Teams (work or school). You can jump to the next section if you have issues with Teams Work or School.

Microsoft Teams Repair helps to fix the application issues. The repair workflow tries to repair the applications and resolve the issue. The Teams application data won’t be removed as part of the repair activity.

Microsoft Teams Reset helps to fix more complex application issues on Windows 11. This reset will delete all the application data stored on the local Windows 11 PC and give it a fresh feeling. I have seen some of the problems with Teams go away after performing the RESET.

  • Reset – will delete Teams preferences that you have configured.
  • Reset – will delete Teams sign-in details.

Reinstall - Microsoft Teams for School or Work Application after Uninstall
Reinstall – Microsoft Teams for School or Work Application after Uninstall

Re-Installing Microsoft Teams for home or personal applications is explained in the following section of the post. You need to restart your Windows 11 PC (or wait for some next policy refresh); after the restart, the built-in application will come back automatically!

But remember, this restart won’t bring the Teams Work or School. You need to follow the method explained in the above section to re-install the Teams Work or School variant.

The manual option to bring back or reinstall Microsoft Teams personal or home variant is downloading the MSIX application (MicrosoftTeams-x64.msix) from Microsoft Download and installing it manually.

NOTE! – I have also noticed some issues with finding the Microsoft Teams home or personal application in Apps & Features -> App list after the reinstall.

This is because automatic reinstall just creates the application shortcut, but it won’t install the Teams App. You need to launch the application and then click on the getting started button to install the Teams app.
