Last weekend I suffered a spell of insomnia and decided to get out of bed, so as to not wake up my wife, and go watch television.
I am a child of the 70’s, so I fondly remember waking up with my brother and running downstairs to watch Saturday morning cartoons. This was before remote controls, so my brother and I had carefully planned what shows to watch and who will turn the knob and the designated time. There was something for everyone, Smurfs, Scooby Doo, Voltron, etc. My brother and I would sit until 11am watching shows and have deep philosophical debates about which cartoon character was better. Oh Saturday mornings…
So last week I was stunned to see that there are no more cartoons on. Are networks not developing cartoons anymore? No superheroes, robots or little fairy tale creatures could be found. There was some weird Japanese “anime” on that I could not follow nor thought it was of good quality. I clicked and clicked but found nothing.

You brought back memories for me! My siblings and I watched the Saturday morning cartoons while our parents slept in late. I also remember watching old Tarzan movies on Sunday afternoons and, as a family, watching cartoons like The Flintstones and The Jetsons, which originally aired during prime time.
Arun – The cartoons are still there on the Disney channel if you can catch them, but we have a steadily building collection of them in DVD. Now you can get entire seasons of Tom and Jerry, Scooby Do, etc. Also my kids watch them without interruption of commercials. I find this refreshing. Bill
My three year old daughter likes to watch Tom and Jerry with me but it’s on at 11pm on Boomerang (a Cartoon Network channel). She’s often still up then (I know bad parents!) but yeah it’s sad that no good cartoons are made anymore. Looney Tunes were the best – Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, et al.
