'Image Credit One wrong Tweet and a CIO could be looking for a new job…. Is Twitter for real? I mean, is this going to be another one of those social media things that springs up, is hot-hot-hot for a bit, and then fads away and is forgotten? I don’t have a crystal ball and so I can’t tell you if Twitter has any staying power, but as a company’s CIO in addition to running the IT department you are going to have to help come up with the company’s Twitter strategy ….

I went to Thailand this week to run a session on the future of business for a senior partner offsite of a global professional services firm. I have had a whole series of deadlines (fortunately easing a fraction now) so had to work the whole 8 1/2 hour flight to Bangkok. I was flying Qantas business class in an A330, so I plugged in my Dell XPS 15Z laptop and it appeared to be working.

'(This post originally published July 8, 2012). Do City, County and State government CIOs have a responsibility to be “cheerleaders” for their jurisdictions for economic development of the community? I think so. We CIOs have talked about “aligning information technology with the business” of government and “customer service” to other departments.

We’re discussing the States’ role in building the new Nationwide Public Safety wireless Broadband Network (NPSBN).

'Visionary. That word surely describes Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz. He’s not a “visionary” Chief with his head in the clouds, but, rather, a Chief who is actually making his vision a reality on the ground in his City today. I had the chance to hear part of that vision from Chief Schultz at the annual Integrated Justice Information Systems industry summit in Albuquerque on July 27th.
