Processor Powered by Artificial Intelligence
  • At a Computex 2023 presentation in Taiwan, Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, unveiled a new batch of AI-backed products and services.
  • Intel has confirmed that its Meteor Lake line of CPUs will come with a new integrated AI engine as a part of its upgraded features.
  • Both companies seek to leverage the ongoing artificial intelligence boom and a spike in demand for chips that can manage AI-related tasks.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced the release of new products and services backed by artificial intelligence technologies at the Computex Taipei 2023 event. A key offering in NVIDIA’s lineup is a new AI-powered supercomputer platform named the DGX GH200. This product is expected to allow tech enterprises like Meta, Microsoft, and Alphabet to generate tools like ChatGPT and beyond.

Another offering is an advertising service, in collaboration with WPP Plc., which will take advantage of the metaverse and AI technologies to cut costs associated with advertising production. UK-based WPP will use NVIDIA’s Omniverse tech to create virtual models of real-world products to easily customize advertisements instead of spending big on reshoots.

The company will also release a gaming service — NVIDIA ACE for Games, which will use artificial intelligence to provide background characters with personalities to bolster gaming experiences. NVIDIA’s ACE can take in player inputs and use generative AI to create more natural responses.

With these announcements, NVIDIA hopes to become more than just a computer chip manufacturer and place itself as a critical player in the artificial intelligence industry. The company has almost reached a record $1 trillion valuation, over projections of high demand for data center chips that can handle AI-powered tasks.

Intel’s Meteor Lake Processors Feature Arc Graphics

Simultaneously, Intel also released details about its latest Meteor Lake processor platform, which is set to be launched later this year. The new line of Intel CPUs will focus significantly on artificial intelligence.

The company’s 14th generation of CPUs will be the first to use the Intel 4 process and Foveros packaging in a chiplet design, where each component of the processor is built in a different tile. It will improve power management for customized workloads.

Intel will also release a new GPU featuring Arc graphics for integrated architectures, allowing for Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) in low-power setups in addition to ray tracing operations.

More importantly, Intel plans to introduce a vision processing unit for the Meteor Lake platform, which will allow specialized processors to handle sustained AI-based workloads on local computers much more efficiently than GPUs and CPUs.

With thousands of platforms and apps being built around Intel’s ecosystem, the company can leverage the advantages of AI to gain an edge over competitors such as Qualcomm, IBM, and Texas Instruments, among others.
