Microsoft has announced that its AI assistant for Windows will start rolling out on September 26. In addition, the Office AI application will become available from November 1, 2023. The move comes as the tech giant continues pushing to include generative AI capabilities into its products. The AI applications will support apps such as Excel and Word, among others.

The AI Copilot assistants are expected to create a unified experience for users of the company’s products, devices, and services. With the inclusion of these AI assistants, the AI-powered products by Microsoft will include security and finance products and Bing search. The new additions make use of OpenAI’s GPT-4 tech.

The Office assistant will cost users $30 per month and will be available for business subscribers as an add-on to existing payments. The tool integrates Windows interfaces with large language models and can be used to complete repetitive tasks, rewrite and summarize content, draft emails, and much more.

In addition, the Bing search engine will be supported by the DALL-E 3 model by OpenAI. The move is important as Office applications contribute approximately a quarter of Microsoft’s revenue. However, while the AI assistants will be released to a limited number of users at present, it is expected to be a significant revenue generator for the company in 2024 and further.
