  • X confirmed it is expanding its Ads Revenue Sharing program for global creators.
  • X/Twitter’s Ads Revenue Sharing is available for creators across 115 countries.
  • Here’s how you can check if you’re eligible to apply.

Formerly known as Twitter, X confirmed expanding its Ads Revenue Sharing program for global creators. The expansion comes on the heels of the company starting to share ad revenue with verified creators earlier in July.

X/Twitter’s Ads Revenue Sharing is available for creators across 115 countries. The initiative is driven by X/Twitter’s goal to retain top creative talent on its platform and prevent their exodus to other social media, such as TikTok.

It also represents billionaire technocrat and X-owner Elon Musk’s efforts to help the company improve its balance sheet in the long term. Twitter shelling out the cash in the short term may seem counter-intuitive to this. However, besides retaining existing creators, the overarching goal is to pull in those not on the platform and, looking at the eligibility criteria, incentivize the Twitter Blue subscription revenue.

The big fish, however, would be to fuel higher ad spend on the evolving microblogging platform to make it competitive with the likes of TikTok, if not Facebook and Google.

For instance, Musk said July 2023 was “a bit more promising” in terms of ad revenue on X/Twitter compared to June. Still, they have a “negative cash flow, due to ~50% drop in advertising revenue plus heavy debt load.”

Musk added, “Need to reach positive cash flow before we have the luxury of anything else.”

Musk recently posted that X/Twitter’s monthly users grew to a new high of 541.5+ million in 2023:

In June 2023, Musk confirmed the first payment block is as much as $5 million. This payment represents the cumulative total of creators starting February 2023, when Musk first announced the new program.

Some creators received five-figure sums, including writer Brian Krassenstein (followers upwards of 750,000), who was paid $24,305.

Who is Eligible for Ads Revenue Sharing Program?

Under the program, creators would be eligible to receive a payout from X/Twitter for the advertising served in the replies to their posts.

X/Twitter users eligible for Ads Revenue Sharing program are those that fulfill the following three criteria:

  1. They must have a subscription to Twitter Blue or Twitter Verified Organizations.
  2. They must have at least 15 million impressions on their cumulative posts in the last three months.
  3. They must have at least 500 followers.

If users are eligible, they need to sign up for a Stripe account to receive the payouts and accept the terms and conditions.

Users can apply for the Ads Revenue Sharing program through the Monetization section under Settings on the platform’s mobile app and web interface.

What Can Get Users Revoked From the Ads Revenue Sharing Program?

Monetizing false, misleading, or unsubstantiated claims, including “get-rich-quick” schemes, promoting illegal goods, engaging in criminal behavior, violent or sexual content, gambling, and sensitive events (natural disasters, conflict, civic disorders, etc.) can get users removed from the program.

Users must also refrain from inciting violence, abuse, harassment, engaging in hateful conduct, encouraging suicide, or posting sensitive media.

“We want X to be the best place on the internet to earn a living as a creator and this is our first step in rewarding you for your efforts,” X/Twitter tweeted.
