Cubic Transportation Systems and HID Collaborate to Enhance Transit Ridership
The HID VAL100 ticket validator was integrated into Cubic® Transportation Systems' Umo® fare collection system for deployment to North American transit agencies for two simple reasons, savings in time and money, for everybody.
Cubic Transportation Systems realized that the HID VAL100 would enhance Umo's "quick and easy" approach to implementing fare collection systems. The open architecture design of HID's ticket validator would enable Umo to easily integrate and configure its apps with the HID VAL100, while the speed and ease of integrating and configuring the HID hardware would save Cubic's product and engineering teams days of labor.
The Public Transportation Authorities (PTAs) also benefited significantly. The integration allowed the PTAs to offer new digital fare payment options, board passengers faster, and create fare caps while collecting transaction data to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, HID's ticket validators for mass transit have an open architecture, which makes them ideal for easy integration with future ticketing system upgrades.
The amalgamation of Cubic's and HID's skill sets has proven beneficial for businesses and communities. For example, several North American PTA districts successfully incorporated the Umo platform containing the HID VAL100: Milwaukee County Transit System; Salem, Oregon, US; BC Transit (Victoria); and Saul Ste. Marie, ON, Canada. Their successes bode well for the future.

The future portends that transit ridership and the demand for smart ticketing will boom. Statista forecasts that the number of global public transportation users will reach nearly 4.5 billion by 2027, and much of that growth will be in North America.
