11 additional communications service providers and vendors from around the world have committed to transforming their legacy systems using TM Forum’s Open Digital Architecture, bringing the signatories total to 30.
Flying towards a globally standardized architecture
TM Forum today announced 11 additional communications service providers (CSPs) and vendors from around the world have committed to transforming their legacy systems using the Forum’s Open Digital Architecture. This is further testimony to the necessity for this industry agreed blueprint for zero-touch, software-defined operations, and a step closer to a global acceleration in digital innovation. This means that a total of 30 providers and suppliers have committed to adopting this new approach to building software for the telecoms industry, with new signatories including: BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, Telenor, Chunghwa Telecom and Vidéotron on the CSP side; and suppliers Amdocs, Netcracker Technologies, Nokia and Oracle Communications and Globetom also heeding the call. The Open Digital Architecture is essential in creating market for innovative, standardized and interoperable software components by:
This commitment opens the pathway a new software model and rapid innovation for the industry as described in a new white paper authored by TM Forum members and published today: A future vision for the software market the telecom industry needs to survive and thrive, thus enabling the industry to invest in IT for new and differentiated services instead of customization and integration. According to a recent TM Forum report “Time to Kill the RFP?,” CSPs spend about $90 billion each year on IT. On top of that, the process of selecting and procuring software alone costs the industry approximately $1 billion per year. The ODA provides the foundation for service providers to cut these costs while significantly reducing time-to-market for new services and delivering cutting-edge digital experience – factors which are crucial to remaining competitive and unlocking growth in the 5G era.
“The momentum building to collaboratively deliver the Open Digital Architecture is the software market foundation our industry deserves, instead of sinking resources into maintenance and integration of customized legacy solutions that are blocking agility and innovation,” said Nik Willett’s, CEO, TM Forum.
