In the SecureWorld Spotlight Series, we learn about the speakers and Advisory Council members that make our events a success. In Q&A format, they share about their professional journeys, unique experiences, and hopes for the future of cybersecurity—along with some personal anecdotes.

In this installment, we introduce you to Rob Dalzell, the BISO at Bank of America. Rob is a cybersecurity and IT professional with over 30 years of experience. He has thrived in the following cybersecurity-based arenas: BISO, third-party defense, vulnerability management, identity and access management, responsible vulnerability disclosure, email encryption, and general security awareness.

Rob is a member of ISACA, serves on the Advisory Board for SecureWorld Charlotte, and is in the final stages of completing his Master's degree in Cybersecurity. He is an active supporter and advocate for those impacted by disabilities, an advocate in the Women in Technology and Operations (WIT&O) organization, and an ardent believer in life-long learning.

Get to know Rob Dalzell

Question: Why did you decide to pursue cybersecurity as a career path?

Answer: Because I find the work very interesting in an area that is going to continue to grow.

 

Question: What encouraged you to join your current company?

Answer: The fact that Bank of America takes a very serious approach to cybersecurity from the highest levels. We work very, very hard to maintain a secure environment.

 

Question: How would you describe your feelings about cybersecurity in one word?

Answer: Everchanging.

 

Question: What has been your most memorable moment thus far working in cybersecurity?

Answer: Today.

 

Question: If you had to choose, what's the one cybersecurity practice people can adopt that would have the greatest impact?

Answer: Be educated about the dangers and the best practices to stay safe.

 

Question: What is an industry-wide change you would like to see happen in 2022?

Answer: Leaders doing more help to those [employees] who are growing in their careers.

 

Question: If you could pass or change one regulation/law in cybersecurity and data protection, what would it be and why?

Answer: This is just one person's opinion: more use of biometric identification.

 

Question: What are you most looking forward to this year at SecureWorld?

Answer: Interacting face to face with security folks again.

 

Question: What do you hope attendees will take away from your keynote panel at SecureWorld Charlotte?

Answer: Set goals, plan for the future, work hard, keep learning, and help others along the way.
