Charlie Bell, a member of Amazon’s senior leadership team and a longtime linchpin of the company’s cloud business, is leaving the company after more than 23 years.
His departure, reported by The Information and confirmed by CNBC, is the latest change in Amazon Web Services executive team as the cloud division’s longtime leader, Andy Jassy, takes over as Amazon CEO.
Amazon Web Services executive Peter Desantis, the company’s senior vice president of infrastructure and support, will take Bell’s job as head of utility computing services, The Information reported, citing an internal email. Prasad Kalyanaraman, another AWS executive, will replace Desantis as the leader of AWS network and infrastructure services.
AWS is led by CEO Adam Selipsky, who rejoined Amazon to replace Jassy after his tenure as CEO of Tableau Software in Seattle.
Bell joined Amazon in 1998 when it acquired his company, Server Technologies Group, an e-commerce transaction software company that he founded in 1996 after leaving Oracle, according to his LinkedIn bio. It describes his role as leading the “general management of AWS services, including product definition, pricing, P&Ls, software development, and service operations.”
In a virtual appearance last year at an industry conference, Bell described his time at AWS as “14 years of pure fun.”
