Another virtual reality gaming experience is opening shop in the Seattle region.
Sandbox VR announced Wednesday that it will open one of its full-body VR venues in 520 Westlake, a Vulcan Real Estate property in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. The location is expected to open in 2023 and is the second in the Puget Sound region for Sandbox, which opened at Totem Lake in Kirkland, Wash., in April.
The new location will be 6,030 square feet and feature four private rooms, called “holodecks,” for VR gameplay. Each holodeck enables groups of up to six players to have a shared experience, exploring virtual worlds and relying on each other to succeed in games designed to be social experiences.
Players are equipped with a VR headset, a haptic vest, a backpack, and motion sensors on their wrists and ankles. Game experiences include “Deadwood Valley,” “Amber Sky 2088,” “Curse of Davy Jones,” “Star Trek: Discover” and more.
Sandbox VR curently has more than 30 locations across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
Zero Latency VR, an Australia-based virtual reality technology company, announced in September that it was bringing one of its free-roam gaming spaces to Redmond, Wash. The space is now open.
Numerous other venues in the Seattle region cater to VR players, including Hive VR, Portal VR and more.
