Ballmer: Microsoft has 1 Million Servers - Microsoft now has more than 1 million servers in its data centers, according to CEO Steve Ballmer, who confirmed the number during his keynote address during last week’s Worldwide Partner Conference in which he handicapped the size of the server platforms for the world’s leading  cloud computing providers.

GI Partners Buys LA Telecom Hub One Wilshire - Private equity firm GI Partners has acquired One Wilshire, the leading carrier hotel in Los Angeles and one of the most wired buildings in the world, the company confirmed this week. The new owner, a long-time player in data center real estate, acquired the building from Hines Property Trust.

Google Spends $1.6 Billion in 3 Months on its Data Centers - Google’s extraordinary data center building boom continues to drive its spending, as the company invested a record $1.6 billion in its data centers in the second quarter of 2013. It marked the third consecutive quarter, Google spent more than $1 billion on data centers and servers, reflecting the company’s latest wave of data center construction projects.

Yahoo Expands its Vision for Wind-Cooled Server Coops - Over the past two years, as rivals like Google, Apple and Facebook have invested billions of dollars to build ultra-efficient data centers, things have been pretty quiet over at Yahoo. But a change may be in the offing, as Yahoo appears to be ready to expand its vision for a large campus of wind-cooled “computing coops” in upstate New York.

Telx Expands to Another Major NYC Data Hub - For Telx, the shortest path to the cloud runs through the skyscrapers of Manhattan. The fast-growing provider is expanding to a third major telecom hub in New York City, leasing a floor of space at 32 Avenue of the Americas in Tribeca, where it will also manage the building’s Meet-Me-Room (MMR).
