The best laptop under $1,000 This year’s HP Envy x360 is a big deal. Traditionally, the Envy line has been HP’s midrange option; it’s a rung above the budget Pavilion, but a rung below the flagship Spectre. The displays on HP’s midrange laptops have knocked it out of the park in the last few years, and this Envy is no exception.

HP has overhauled its Elite Dragonfly with some significant changes, some of which will likely be welcome in consumer and business circles alike, and some of which may be. HP has actually made the keys larger than they were on the previous Dragonfly. Whatever HP did here is a god-send. Of course, the insides got a bump as well.

Storage maxes out at 1TB. Similarly, it looks like only the Intel models offer that much storage. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to be excited about, of course. RAM maxes out at 32GB. But it looks like if you want that much memory, you’ll need to get an Intel model. The AMD configurations only go up to 16GB.

That’s enough, of course, to make the Flex 5 one of the best midrange Chromebooks you can buy — as long as you’re aware of the tradeoffs you’re making for the price. My Flex 5 review unit has an Intel Core i3-10110U, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage. Both of these devices have decisive advantages, of course. First, the good.
