The best laptop under $1,000 This year’s HP Envy x360 is a big deal. Traditionally, the Envy line has been HP’s midrange option; it’s a rung above the budget Pavilion, but a rung below the flagship Spectre. The displays on HP’s midrange laptops have knocked it out of the park in the last few years, and this Envy is no exception.

HP and Microsoft have announced a new version of their high-resolution Reverb virtual reality headset, aimed at VR gamers rather than businesses. The original Reverb suffered from cloudy visuals , but HP is promising that new lenses and panels will clear that problem up. HP and Microsoft built the G2 with input from Valve.

Both have been upgraded to 11th-Gen Intel processors and DDR4 memory — HP tells me they’re aimed at “mobile users who loved Dragonfly, but want an even faster and smarter device”. Lenovo has adopted the roomier 16:10 and 3:2 aspect ratios on a number of its premium ThinkPads, and HP should do the same with the Dragonfly.

If you have an older system but are worried that it won’t support Windows 10 — or if you simply don’t want to deal with Windows anymore — I have a suggestion: Switch to desktop Linux. The new Microsoft Flight Simulator is an immersive beast of a PC game, and we can only imagine how immersive it might get in VR — but you might not have to imagine much longer, because Microsoft has just opened signups (via Eurogamer ) for a closed beta of the virtual reality experience.

Amazon WorkSpaces , the company’s virtual desktop service, just unveiled its first device for end users, a $195 product created by directly repurposing the hardware design for Amazon’s Fire TV Cube. “That is exactly what we’re going for,” he said.
