Kuiper satellite network gets a big lift from Amazon’s CEO, but timeline is a bit hazy

Amazon will need 3,236 satellites to fill out the full constellation in low Earth orbit, and under the terms of its license from the Federal Communications Commission, half of those satellites will have to be in orbit by mid-2026. The rest would have to be launched by 2029.

The details will have to be cleared with the FCC as well as the International Telecommunication Union once they’re available. Amazon revealed its plans for Project Kuiper just last year.
