Batteries — from a Duracell AA all the way to a Tesla lithium-ion battery capable of holding approximately 100 kWh — store energy chemically, and can convert it to usable electricity. That necessarily involves some energy loss and inefficiency. Superconducting is also important to many nuclear fusion reactor designs.
