We propose to solve the second problem by incorporating the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) into the engine as the persistence layer for picos. By using IPFS, the pico's persistent state would be available to it regardless of where it is being run. With this two changes in place, we can create a mesh of pico engines.

I wrote about an example of this , NoFilter.org , that provides self-certifying and self-administered blogging using Metamask, some Javascript, and IPFS. Tags: web3 ssi identity keri decentralized+identifiers. Again, no third party needed. Web3, built in this way, allows people to act as full-fledged participants in the digital realm.

IPFS does this for storage, decentralizing file storage by putting files in shared spaces at the edge. With IPFS, people act as user-operators to host and receive content in a peer-to-peer manner. If a file gets more popular, IPFS attempts to store it in more places and closer to the need. We've made progress in this area.
