Jeda Networks describes themselves as a “software-defined storage networking” company. Basically, what Jeda Networks does is create a software-based FCoE overlay on an existing Ethernet network. VMware introduced VMware NSX recently at VMworld 2013. Cisco shared some thoughts on what they termed a “software-only” approach; naturally, they have a different vision for data center networking (and that’s OK). Operating Systems/Applications. This looks interesting. Very good stuff!

This is IDF 2013 session CLDS001, titled “Rack Scale Architecture for Cloud.” However, the current architectures aren’t sufficient. Thermal inefficiencies and a lack of service-based (software-defined?) To address these concerns, Intel believes that a rack-level architecture is needed.
