Both United Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines saw service outages in 2023 resulting from wonky software upgrades, and Southwest ended the previous year with a Christmas travel meltdown blamed on outdated systems. Probably the worst IT airline disaster of 2023 came on the government side, however.

In the 1980’s he tried teaching himself computers by obtaining software from corporate giants like Oracle and AT&T. They didn’t see it that way; they viewed it as Kevin was stealing the software. Kevin talked with the airline and they swore they’d lock up his luggage. KEvin checked again.

The 2015 outage was due to hardware failure with a recovery process compounded by both the production system and backup being impacted. Opinions: Outages occur in complex systems (like the 8 July NYSE and United Airlines outages). There is no indication that either outage was caused by hostile actors.
