It’s very difficult to imagine an enterprise Cloud that both would co-exist. The drivers for a Cloud provider selecting a Cloud management platform are different from an Enterprise selecting a Cloud manager. So, it is a consideration but we are just looking at traditional enterprise public Clouds on this post.

If you only read sources like Forbes you’d think every enterprise runs on AWS, has a ton of developers and have completely abandoned Windows.

Using a Linux Environment. It’s no secret that I use OS X, and the toolchain that the OpenStack documentation team uses is—like the rest of OpenStack—pretty heavily biased toward Linux. It wasn’t until just recently that I realized: why not just use a Linux VM? on Amazon EC2 (via Ravello Systems).

Further, although the vEOS disk image is provided as a VMware VMDK, KVM/QEMU is perfectly capable of using the VMDK without any conversion required (this is kind of nice). Docker leverages LXC (Linux Containers), which encompasses Linux features like cgroups and namespaces for strong process isolation and resource control. LTS as the Linux platform. linux-headers-generic-lts-raring. LTS VM running on VirtualBox, VMware Fusion, or VMware Workstation will work fine.

Platform9 was launched by former VMware veterans with the goal of making it easy for companies to consume their existing infrastructure in an agile, cloud-like fashion.
