Servers/Hardware. Intel clearly has its sights set on expanding beyond just “servers” into many more platforms, including network hardware platforms. I’m not yet convinced that running something like the AWS CLI in a Docker container is worth the extra effort (a Python virtual environment may be more appropriate here).

Cumulus VX, if you aren’t aware, is a community-supported virtual appliance version of Cumulus Linux aimed at helping folks preview and test “full-blown” Cumulus Linux (which, of course, requires compatible hardware). The end of 2016 is nearly upon us, and it looks as if there will be only one more Technology Short Take before the end of the year. This is an interesting project to watch, I think—it’s porting OVN (Open Virtual Network) from a “traditional” OvS back-end to an IOVisor-based back-end (IOVisor implements the data plane in eBPF).
