Perhaps more importantly, advertising is a high-margin business, helping boost Amazon’s profits that grew to $7.8 (GeekWire Photo). The 87% growth rate is notable; that rate in the year-ago quarter was 41%.

It’s part of the site’s culture to play music in the background of streams, and no one really checks for the appropriate licenses. Even so, some clips with copyrighted music would still make it through Twitch’s filter because using music in streams without a license is endemic to the culture of streaming.

Two things stick out to me here: one is the week-long timeframe, particularly in comparison to Spotify, which signed deals with Call Her Daddy and Armchair Expert over the past year and immediately shuffled them behind the platform’s wall.
