The stolen database included data from 2002 to 2014, including employees’ names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and duty stations within the department. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced a data breach that occurred in May 2017. Data for more than 247,000 DHS employees and people under investigation by the agency was taken from a secure DHS database. The department said a former employee caused the breach, not a hacker.
