DOJ suit over Apple iPhone cites failures of Amazon Fire Phone and Microsoft Windows Phone

Barriers are so high that Google is a distant third to Apple and Samsung despite the fact that Google controls development of the Android operating system.

Microsoft says Windows 11’s File Explorer ads were ‘not intended to be published externally’

Microsoft MVP and Twitter user Florian Beaubois discovered an ad in the latest test build of Windows 11, prompting users to check out the Microsoft Editor. While the ads might have appeared for some Windows 11 users, Microsoft says it was a mistake.

Google acquires Neverware, a company that turns old PCs into Chromebooks

The idea is that companies and schools (as well as individuals) can convert old, slow systems into Chromebooks rather than throwing them out — Chrome OS is a less demanding operating system for these machines to run than Windows 10 is. Google hasn’t said anything of the sort, so that’s just hopeful speculation for now).

VMware patches critical virtual machine escape flaws

Two of the vulnerabilities, tracked as CVE-2017-4902 and CVE-2017-4903 in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures database, were exploited by a team from Chinese internet security firm Qihoo 360 as part of an attack demonstrated two weeks ago at Pwn2Own. The researchers were awarded $105,000 for their feat.
