New! 2012+ Trends Map

Trends in the Living Networks

Here is Richard’s Trend Map for 2012, once again breaking new ground in communicating trends and ideas. Richard Watson of NowandNext.com and I have collaborated extensively over the years, including on numerous client projects. Richard is very well-known for his Trend Blend annual series of maps ( here are the 2007-2010 trend maps ). I collaborated with Richard on several of them but not on the more recent ones, partly as he is now based in London.

Observations from Dreamforce 2012

The Investing Edge

I was at Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference yesterday with 95,000 of my closest friends. Seriously, that’s how many people registered for this event. It’s an impressive display of organizational prowess and the Salesforce team puts on a great show. The keynote yesterday morning featured lots of slick videos and loud music. It also included appearances by Tony Robbins, The Cake Boss and MC Hammer (and the evening was capped off by the Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Dominant themes for 2012: transformation and beyond

Trends in the Living Networks

2012: 12 Themes – What to expect in the year ahead. I did quite a few media interviews on the 2012 themes, including on both of the national Australian breakfast TV shows, Sunrise and Today. On the Today show the frame was primarily about the technology and gadgets we could expect in 2012, so I covered some of the developments that are likely in social media and device interfaces. For me, the dominant theme of 2012 is of transformation.

After an enjoyable time at the SORT conference in 2011 I was invited to come back to SLC to present at the RootsTech Genealogy conference. The two hardest data types to model are e-commerce and genealogy. There really just isn’t any good way to do it in a relational database. MongoDB is the answer Genealogy developers have been looking for for a very long time. A flexible schema that allows adhoc searching, horizontal scale and full data integrity
